CR Group held on January 30 the EHS conference. With a theme of “One Position, Double Responsibility and Participation by All”, the conference was attended by more than 140 people, including all the leaders of the group, heads of various group departments, strategic business units and first-class profit centers as well as EHS managers.
Deputy General Manager Wang Chuandong presided over the meeting and General Manager Qiao Shibo delivered a speech. Qiao pointed out that under the “new normal” of the economy, CR will pay more attention to environmental protection, energy conservation, occupational health, safe production, quality and food and medicine safety. Over the past several years, the work of EHS has run smoothly. More members were enrolled and many achievements were accomplished. The EHS management system with CR characteristics has been established in a preliminary fashion. However, EHS is still facing severe challenges in its future work. CR Group attaches importance to EHS and hopes to set the direction and specific targets for EHS for a fixed period in the future.
At the meeting, the head of EHS made a report about the EHS accidents and cases in 2014, analyzed the EHS situation and determined work priorities in 2015. The head also proposed a “seven normal” concept for EHS’ future work, i.e., an “awareness normal” in that the merits and drawbacks of EHS are equal to the reputation of CR; an “organization normal” in the independent supervisor of EHS; a “work normal” in the supervision of hidden dangers and unannounced inspection; a “behavior normal” in the evaluation and supervision of EHS; a “management normal” in leaders’ injunctions at meetings and “nagging” managers; a “culture normal” in everybody’s participation in safety inspection; and a “stimulation normal” in equal importance of punishment and award. GE Corporate was also invited to share its philosophy of EHS and management experience. Excellent departments and employees in 2014 were commended at the meeting.
Chairman Fu Yuning delivered a speech at the end of the meeting. Fu highly appreciated the “seven normal” concept and commended GE’s conception that EHS management and corporate values are equally important. He also praised their people-oriented philosophy. As an important principle in CR’s business, EHS reflects CR’s sense of responsibility and mission. The management group of EHS should perform to high standards, especially when it involves production safety. Fu gave a further explanation of EHS. He said that CR should pay more attention to the natural environment, bring benefits to people’s living conditions from a long-term perspective, attach importance to employees’ health and foster their safety consciousness. All the managers and staff should have a healthy lifestyle that will help to build a harmonious, efficient and competitive team. The safety of production should be strictly implemented. Employees should form positive work habits to prevent them suffering from accidents. Fu mentioned that EHS management reflects the management level and responsibility of a corporation. The strategic business unit (SBU/BU) should find an efficient way to improve the level of EHS management. To strengthen EHS management, problem-oriented methods can be adopted, such as system management and the construction of mechanisms and culture. With the advanced media means today, SBU/BU can build model factories and set “corporate open days” to exchange information with the outside world. It will help to improve the reputation of the group.
The meeting was broadcast simultaneously in 23 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin, Chengdu and Haikou. About 600 people from the grassroots divisions attended the video meeting.
