October 17 is China's first Poverty-Relief Day. On the morning, the State Council held a national teleconference on social poverty relief work and a forum on social poverty relief work in the People's Hall. Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the State Council and head of the Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development attended the meeting. Representative from CR, representing central enterprises, attended the conference and forum.
Deputy General Manager Zhu Jinkun of CR made a speech entitled "Fulfill Our Social Responsibilities and Promote Poverty-relieving Development" at the forum. He outlined CR's work in promoting poverty-relieving development in two key aspects: The first is to actively perform its corporate social responsibilities, exploring the development new villages and urbanization in former revolutionary bases and poor areas; the second is to earnestly fulfil the targeted poverty-relief tasks allocated by the State Council, providing science, education, culture and health care support and industrial poverty-relieving services in Guangchuang, Jiangxi, and Haiyuan, Ningxia, two former revolutionary bases. Taking the forum as a platform, CR also urged relevant state ministries to strengthen the top-level design for more support to enterprises in their poverty-relieving work in terms of legislation, policies and administrative mechanisms. In the next few years, CR plans to target its poverty-relieving efforts at former revolutionary bases and further promote its mode of developing Hope Towns to the central and western regions in reference to local situations, with the view of effectively relieving poverty and promote the effectiveness of its efforts for poverty-relieving development.
Tian Qiuxiang, a resident of CR (Baise) Hope Town attended the conference and forum as a representative of the beneficiary party and reported to attending leaders on the production and life of the Hope Town after the conference.
